Zambia Railways Limited and the Development Bank of Southern Africa
(DBSA) have embarked on capacity building training workshops for SARA
members.
The first which ran from 13 to 17 June , 2019, was held at Avani Hotel in Zambia’s tourism capital – Livingstone and focused on Financial
Modeling with the objective of equipping participants with the understanding of the fundamental drivers of financial sustainability
(in the railway industry) and the tools used to analyse them.

The ZRL-DBSA SARA training programme is an initiative of Zambia Railways Limited and answers to the company’s strategic Business
Plan (2018-2022) which prioritizes Financial Viability and Sustainability.

The DBSA training follows months of discussions between Zambia Railways Limited and the Development Bank of Southern
Africa centering on how best the Bank would be able to support Zambia Railways (and the region) in building capacity.

These discussions were concluded at the recently held SARA Conference and Exhibition held in Midrands, South Africa where DBSA
agreed to sponsor a series of training programs of which this one is the first. Other modules will follow in the coming months with the second programme on Project Financing, scheduled to run between
August and September, 2019.
