ZAMBIA RAILWAYS TO RESUME PASSENGER TRAIN SERVICES!

Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) wishes to inform all its customers and members of the general public that the Passenger train service, which was suspended on 6th April as a precautionary measure following the outbreak of the COVID 19 pandemic, will now resume operations on 28th  September, 2020.

However, in line with COVID 19 guidelines, all necessary safety precautions have been put in place to ensure maximum passenger safety. For example, the new train service will run at 60 percent capacity to avoid overcrowding while hand sanitization, hand washing and face masking will be mandatory prerequisites for boarding the train.

Furthermore, passengers will only be allowed one hand luggage on board the train.

Zambia Railways wishes to implore all our prospective customers to strictly adhere to all these safety and health guidelines to avoid being inconvenienced.

The new train service will cover the main line namely Kitwe-Livingstone as well as Livingstone – Mulobezi .

The Mulobezi line will run four trains while the main line will only run two trains in a week.

We would like to sincerely thank all our esteemed customers for their patience during the period we suspended operations and look forward to your continued support as we embark on resuming this vital public service.

‘’ Zambia Railways Limited considers passenger train service as a critical and essential part of our Corporate Social Responsibility as we provide  a cheaper and safer transport alternative to different categories of people that include small scale farmers, traders, tourists, church groups and school going children. We therefore thank Government for allowing us to re-open the passenger service line as this enables us to continue offering this vital service to our people” said Zambia Railways CEO Mr. Christopher Musonda in a statement.
