Kabwe Man Sentenced to Four Years for Theft of Zambia Railways Property
A 37-year-old Zambian man, Linos Kabinda, has been sentenced to four years’ imprisonment with hard labour for stealing property belonging to Zambia Railways Limited.
Kabinda was convicted and sentenced on August 11, 2026, with the 48-month sentence taking effect from the date of his arrest.
The conviction follows an incident on September 17, 2025, at around midday, when Zambia Railways Limited security officers apprehended Kabinda while proceeding from the Zambia Railways Workshops along Mine Hospital Road towards Kabwe Railway Station.
Kabinda was found in possession of a Zambia Railways wagon brake shaft valued at approximately US$100.
He was subsequently handed over to officers at Chowa Police Station, and the matter was later successfully prosecuted, resulting in his conviction and sentencing to four years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
The sentence serves as a warning to would-be offenders to desist from theft and vandalism of rail materials, which are critical to the safe and efficient operation of railway services.
