PASSENGER TRAIN HITS TRUCK AT BWACHA LEVEL CROSSING

KABWE, Zambia , 2 July 2026 – Zambia Railways Limited wishes to inform the public that its passenger Train 202, hauled by Locomotive 2206, hit a white tipper truck bearing registration number CAM 282 at approximately 06:10 hours today at the Bwacha Level Crossing in Kabwe.

Preliminary findings indicate that the truck driver attempted to cross the railway line ahead of the approaching passenger train. Following the incident, the driver reportedly fled the scene without providing his details to the train crew.

Fortunately, no fatalities or injuries were recorded among the passengers, train crew or any other persons involved in the incident. The impact resulted in damage to seven passenger coach window panes, as well as minor damage to the locomotive.

It is important to note that under the Railways Act and applicable railway safety regulations, trains have the right of way at all level crossings, and all road users are required to observe traffic regulations and exercise patience when approaching railway crossings.Reckless behaviour at level crossings endangers the lives of motorists, passengers, train crews and members of the general public.

Zambia Railways Limited remains committed to ensuring the safety of rail operations and calls upon all road users to work together in preventing avoidable accidents at level crossings.
