Zambia Railways Limited has received 1,200 surgical masks from two youth entrepreneurs valued at nine thousand six hundred kwacha (K9,600).
The youth entrepreneurs based in South Africa, Keolebogile Harrington Malawo and Ndashe Musonda made the kind donation in Lusaka today.
Speaking on behalf of the two entrepreneurs, Grapes Corporation Head of Business Management Mabvuto Sakala said the donation is specifically for train crews that operate the freight trains.
Mr Sakala said the fight against Corona Virus needs concerted efforts from all stakeholders.
Receiving the donation on behalf of Zambia Railways Limited, Director Human Resources and Administration Clyde Siamachoka who was representing the Chief Executive Officer expressed gratitude to the young entrepreneurs for the kind gesture.
He said the surgical masks will go a long way in providing protection to the train crews.
“As Zambia Railways Limited, we are encouraged by the initiative of the two youths, especially in remembering the train men of ZRL who really are our core workers” said Mr Musonda.
Since the outbreak of the Corona Virus(COVID 19) pandemic, ZRL has put in place Business Continuity Plan which involves finding ways of keeping the freight trains running. But like all transporters involved in the delivery of essential commodities, we are expected to adhere to COVID 19 health guidelines even as we provide this vital service to our business customers.
Some of these measures include sanitising, observance of social distancing and wearing of masks.
