ZRL BOARD OF DIRECTORS UNDERTAKES A FAMILIARISATION TOUR
The Board of Directors of Zambia Railways Limited(ZRL) undertook a familiarization tour of ZRL facilities from Chambishi in the Copperbelt Province to Livingstone in the Southern Province .
The newly appointed Board of Directors and Sub- Committee Members embarked on a tour to gain a comprehensive understanding of the company’s operations and state of infrastructure.
Speaking to Journalists in Ndola shortly after a visit at ZMART railway siding under construction, Board Chairperson Mr. Emmanuel Hachipuka said ZRL is a strategic Company and its critical role in the economy cannot be over emphasized.
Mr. Hachipuka said the rail sector can significantly contribute in preserving the road network by taking away the heavy and bulky cargo from the roads.
“ The Mining sector continues to the mainstay of the country’s economy, and as such railway Intermine operations remain critical in servicing this sector. ZRL through this Board, is committed to strengthening the Intermine railway operations” said Mr Hachipuka.
The Board tour, covered various locations and facilities, aimed to provide the board members and committee members with a firsthand experience of the company’s operations, enabling them to make informed decisions in the best interests of the organization.
The Board Members toured facilities in Chambishi by first visiting one of the customers’ railway sidings at Chambishi Copper Smelter and Sunline Logistics. The Board Members also had the chance to interact and tour the customer’s facilities at Zmart , Impala Logistics and C Steinweg Bridge.
During the tour, the board members met with senior Government officials through courtesy calls on the Southern Province Minister Hon. Credo Nanjuwa , Central Province Permanent Secretary ,Mr. Milner Mwanakampwe and Copperbelt Province Permanent Secretary Mr Augustine Kasongo
The state of the rail line was also assessed and the Board members undertook a trolley ride at Kapiri Mposhi in Central province to appreciate the state of the infrastructure.
During the tour, the board members centered on identifying potential areas for improvement and growth. They recognized the need to invest in new technologies, to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the company’s services. They also acknowledged the importance of maintaining a strong focus on customer satisfaction.
The knowledge gained will assist the Board to make informed decisions and drive the company towards a successful and sustainable future.
The Board of Directors on this tour included; Mr George Chiyabi( Chief Mapanza),Dr Glenda Chintu Mwando Mazakaza, Mr Kafula Mwiche and Mr Cuthbert Malindi. Other Board Sub- Committee Members were ; Eng. Mulchand Kuntawala, Mr Kanguya Mayondi, Mr Muchindu Kasongola,Mrs Maria Chima Chitomfwa and Eng. Jacqueline Kaumba Lungu.
Other officials in the delegation were Management officials; Acting Managing Director Eng. Fred Mwila, Director Commercial Mr. Godfrey Fumbeshi, Company Secretary Mrs Mwendabai Mwalusi Bulaya, Acting Director Technical Services Eng. Kennedy Zitha, Manager Operations , Mr Justine Sikwatwi and other senior officers.
