CHINGOLA MAN JAILED 18 MONTHS FOR THEFT OF RAIL INFRASTRUCTURE MATERIALS

 

KABWE, Zambia Wednesday 16th October, 2024 – The Chililabombwe Magistrate Court has convicted and sentenced Frackson Chishala, a 29-year-old man of unknown house number of Kapisha Compound in Chingola Town to 18 months (1year six months) imprisonment with hard labour for theft of rail materials valued at K8,225.00.

The theft occurred on Wednesday 18th September, 2024 between Luano and Chililabombwe. The culprit was found with 9 sole plates,12 coach screws and 1 pandrol clip following the apprehension by an alert community member.

The successful prosecution of this case is a testament to the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies and the local community. While this conviction sends a strong message that such crimes will not be tolerated, we are also issuing a stern warning to any potential offenders.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, 13th October 2024, Zambia Railways Limited recovered a total of 27 pieces of 60lb rails which were cut into 13 sections and abandoned by unknown people on the Mulobezi line.

ZRL would like to urge members of the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to railway infrastructure to Zambia Railways Limited Offices or the nearest Police Station promptly.

By working together, we can protect the rail infrastructure and prevent further criminal acts from occurring.
