GOVERNMENT ENGAGING POTENTIAL PARTNERS IN REVITALISATION OF ZRL- HON. FRANK TAYALI

Minister of Transport and Logistics Hon. Frank Tayali has revealed that Government is engaging potential partners in the revitalisation of Zambia Railways Limited.

Speaking during his address when he visited Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) Head office in Kabwe on Wednesday 14th August 2024, Mr Tayali said the government recognizes the important role that the rail sub sector plays in ensuring cheaper transportation of goods and people and the country’s overall economic development.

And the Minister described the ZRL Management and Employees as patriotic unsung heroes for managing to keep the company afloat amidst challenges.

Meanwhile, ZRL Board Chairperson Mr. Emmanuel Hachipuka described the Minister’s visit as a sign of government’s commitmentbin revamping the rail sub -sector.

“ Your visit to ZRL today signifies Government’s commitment in addressing the capacity challenges the company is faced with”said Mr. Hachipuka

And Mr. Hachipuka stressed the urgent need for government to revitalize the rail company, acknowledging the many challenges that the company has been faced with.

During his visit, the Minister further toured the ZRL Main workshop and the Centralized Train Control (CTC) to further appreciate the company’s operations.

The Minister proceeded to Kitwe on Thursday 15th August 2024, where he went to inspect the Kafue Rail Bridge which is in a dilapidated state as the wooden sleepers are rotten making it’s structural integrity compromised posing a huge safety risk to passengers, goods and equipment.
The Minister therefore instructed his Ministry to work with Zambia Railways Limited and ensure that the Bridge is repaired as soon as possible.
