Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) exhibited at this year’s Southern African Railways Association (SARA) Conference and Exhibition that was held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Sandton, South Africa.

Speaking at the Conference, Transport and Logistics Minister Hon Frank Museba Tayali said there is need for the region to have one agenda and one regional railway master plan that must inform how countries develop their railway systems.

The Minister also said Zambia is on course to revitalize the railway system in the country which comprises the Zambia Railways Limited and the Tanzania Zambia Railways Authority (TAZARA).

And ZRL Board Chairperson Mr. Emmanuel Hachipuka disclosed that the railway  company held sideline meetings with several railway stakeholders at the Southern African Railways Association (SARA) Conference and Exhibition.

Mr Hachipuka described the interest shown by various stakeholders to partner with ZRL in addressing capacity constraints as a positive development.

The Board Chairperson in the company of ZRL Acting Managing Director Mr Godfrey Fumbeshi held meetings with potential Suppliers of Railway equipment , ZRL Customers and Financiers who are ready to support some elements in the newly developed Strategic Business Plan.

And Mr Hachipuka further emphasized the critical role that strategic partnerships play in attaining desired growth in the rail sub-sector.

“The Governments on their own are unable to fund rail projects due to the capital intensiveness of the rail sub-sector especially that they have to attend to other competing priority needs and this is why networking with the private sector becomes key,” Mr. Hachipuka said

Mr Hachipuka noted that the rail  sub-sector has continued to experience dynamics in business operations as well as capacity challenges over the years.

Meanwhile Mr Hachipuka was on a Panel Discussion where he ably deliberated  the topic on “Strategic Leadership in Rail: Navigating Governance, Growth, and Sustainability”.
