Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) is a national Railway of Zambia. The Company specializes in transporting heavy cargo in the Southern African Development Community (SADC), as well as running a local passenger train service. The area of product specialization is freight-bulk cargo and passenger rail services to the satisfaction of all Stakeholders. JOB TITLE:             TRACK SUPERVISOR (04)

DEPARTMENT:        TECHNICAL SERVICES

JOB GRADE:            RU-3

SUPERVISOR:         PERMANENT WAY INSPECTOR

 

JOB PURPOSE:

Carry out regular inspections and supervise works on the track and related infrastructure to ensure it is safe for train operations.

MAIN DUTIES

  • Check sections of track are of correct distance apart, and right height.
  • Maintenance and inspection of track in a satisfactory and safe condition for traffic.
  • Efficient execution of all works incidental to track maintenance, including track relaying works.
  • Install and renew track, tunnels, embankments, cuttings, level crossings and bridges
  • Maintenance of land boundaries along the line rail.
  • Inspect sections under mechanized track maintenance.
  • Prompt response to all derailments, emergencies and its effects.
  • Maintain records of equipment, working tools, materials stocks and movement in area of responsibility.
  • Implement all maintenance activities and conduct risk assessments.
  • Conduct inspections of track programs and activities to assess performance, effectiveness and devise appropriate interventions.
  • Report any incidents or accident that occurred during the execution of a project.
  • Prioritize allocation of equipment and machine.
  • Participate in Bridge and culvert construction and maintenance.
  • Preparation of progress reports on all track works.
  • Participate in ensuring development and maintenance programs related to rail engineering and capital projects are in compliance to guidelines, rules and regulations of Local Government and State Agencies.
  • Ensure implementations of all maintenance procedures and Maintenance Management System (MMS).
  • Participate in ensuring effective contract management.
  • Implement and update the track condition register.
  • Participate in uplifting Temporary Speed Restrictions (TSR).
  • Prioritize patch work of rail line on high traffic density areas.
  • Implementation of infrastructure policies and procedures.
  • Participate in developing and improving all track and right-of-way (Way leave).
  • Implementation of a robust quality assurance certificate system.
  • Provide technical expertise to engineering works and projects.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and guidelines.

 

Academic /Professional Qualifications:

  • Full Grade 12 school certificate with at least 5 ‘O’ levels
  • Minimum of a Trade Test certificate in any technical field from any recognized Trade School/college
  • 1 years’ work experience
