Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) is a national Railway of Zambia. The Company specializes in transporting heavy cargo in the Southern African Development Community (SADC), as well as running a local passenger train service. The area of product specialization is freight-bulk cargo and passenger rail services to the satisfaction of all Stakeholders. JOB TITLE:          SENIOR ENGINEER- PROJECTS & CIVIL WORKS (01)

GRADE:                  ZR003

  

JOB PURPOSE:

Planning, monitoring and co-coordinating of projects and oversee all civil maintenance works in the organization.

MAIN DUTIES

  • Prepare drawings, BoQs, specification and work schedules for infrastructure projects.
  • Scrutinize structural and building designs, site development forms, and completion of contract certificates and maintenance of utility buildings.
  • Formulate and analyze technical report to locate the presence, source, nature and extent of flaws in building structures and civil installations.
  • Prepare and monitor maintenance schedules and work plan for civil works.
  • Participate in identification and implementation of infrastructural capital investment needs to sustain and improve safety capacity and reliability of train operations.
  • Participate in the identification, formulation proposals and management of projects
  • Prepare progress project reports.
  • Monitor and analyze performance against plans and standards.
  • Implementation of infrastructure policies and procedures.
  • Implementation of a robust quality assurance certificate system.
  • Provide technical expertise to engineering works and projects.
  • Participate in planning, monitoring and evaluation of all maintenance activities and conduct risk assessments.
  • Conduct inspections and technical audits of infrastructure projects and civil works to assess performance, effectiveness and devise appropriate interventions.
  • Investigate and report any incidents or accident that occurred during the execution of a project.
  • Participate in Preparation of project terms of reference.
  • Bridge and culvert construction and maintenance.
  • Ensure development and maintenance programs related to rail engineering and capital projects are in compliance to guidelines, rules and regulations of Local Government and State Agencies.
  • Ensure implementations of all maintenance procedures and Maintenance Management System (MMS).
  • Ensure effective contract management.
  • Participate in the preparation and tracking of annual work strategy in line with organizational strategic business plan.
  • Participate in the development of annual and long-range rail capital improvement plan for all additions and improvements to the railway network in conjunction with approved operation plans.
  • Development of capital project proposals and technical specification.
  • Prioritize patch work of rail line on high traffic density areas.
  • Implementation of infrastructure policies and procedures.
  • Review regional civil projects and develop best strategies and policies for ZRL
  • Adherence to safety protocols and guidelines

 

Academic /Professional Qualifications:

  • Full grade 12 certificate (5 ‘0’ levels) with credit or better in Mathematics and English
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years’ experience (knowledge of railways industry is an added advantage).
  • Membership to a professional body is a must. (EIZ).
