ZRL SETTLES OUTSTANDING TERMINAL BENEFITS FOR 104 EMPLOYEES

KABWE, 21st October 2025 – Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) has successfully paid out over K38 million outstanding terminal benefits, to 104 former employees, covering the period 2023 to 2025.

The K38,170,952.29 payments include, retirement benefits for all the seventy -seven (77) retirees, gratuity payments for twenty -two (22) employees whose contracts ended and five (5) death benefits for deceased employees, bringing the total number of employees paid to 104.

The settlement follows sustained effort by Management and the Board of Directors to prioritize employee welfare. Further, ZRL appreciates the Government of the Republic of Zambia through the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) for the support in settling the outstanding benefits.

ZRL Managing Director Eng. Cuthbert Malindi said the settlement of the outstanding benefits is a milestone, and marks a significant step in the company’s commitment to fulfilling its financial and moral obligations to its current staff and former workforce.

“We are delighted to announce that outstanding terminal benefits for our former employees have now been cleared. ZRL recognizes the sacrifices made by its former employees, who laid the foundation upon which Zambia Railways continues to build. Settling these obligations is not only a legal duty but a moral responsibility,” the Managing Director said.

Eng. Malindi disclosed that going forward, Management will implement a plan to settle all retirement packages as they fall due, by ensuring that employees receive their entitlements on time.

ZRL further, appreciates its former employees for the patience and understanding during the period leading to this milestone, and assures all stakeholders that mechanisms have been put in place to prevent future backlogs of employee entitlements.
