KABWE, Zambia Friday 25th April 2025 – Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) working with the Zambia Police Service conducted a joint operation in Ndola’s Minsundu area on Thursday 24th April 2025 and apprehended three people for encroaching on railway land.

The apprehended suspects who were found constructing a house on railway reserve land are currently in custody and have been identified as  ; Mambili Bowel, aged 48, of Overspill, Ernest Chisha, aged 51, of Overspill and Manzanita Bornface, aged 40 of Overspill.

Further, we encourage members of the public to exercise caution when purchasing land in close proximity to the railway reserve land in order to avoid encroaching on railway property.

ZRL is concerned with the increased cases of encroachment on the railway reserve land throughout the system. Encroachments are a violation of the Railways Act which prohibits anyone to build within 50 meters on either side of the Railway line or any land beyond the 50 meters radius that is owned by ZRL.

The railway reserve land plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operations of our railway services. Therefore, encroachment on this reserve land not only poses a safety risk  to the train operations and the entire community ,but also hinders our ability to maintain and improve the railway infrastructure.

ZRL remains committed to working with all the stakeholders to ensure the protection of railway land from encroachments.
