TRAIN AND TRUCK ACCIDENT AT CHIWALA LEVEL CROSSING IN NDOLA

KABWE, 5th December, 2024 – Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) regrets to announce the accident involving a south bound goods train no. 523 on locomotive 084 carrying empty wagons and a truck and trailer registration no. AJE 680 MP conveying Copper.
The incident happened today at 14:20 hours at Chiwala Level Crossing in Bwana Mkubwa area in Ndola.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the truck driver did not stop at the named level crossing to give way to the approaching train as per traffic rules, and in the process the train hit into the truck which ended up capsizing.
The incident did not result in any fatalities but caused damage to the locomotive involved and the truck.
The ZRL recovery team responded swiftly and is working to restore the movement of road and rail traffic.
ZRL is earnestly appealing to motorists to exercise caution and observe the traffic rules pertaining to rail crossings to prevent such occurrences which are costly, compromises safety and disrupt movement of both trains and motorists.
