ZAMBIA RAILWAYS LIMITED PARTICIPATES IN WORLD HEALTH MENTAL DAY COMMEMORATION
Zambia Railways Limited took part in this year’s World Mental Health Day commemoration in Kabwe.
The event was observed under the theme: “It is time to prioritize Mental Health in workplace”.
ZRL Assistant Manager Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Ms. Glenda N. Sokontwe represented the company at the event that was held at Kwame Nkrumah University East Campus.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Ms. Sokontwe said mental health burden is increasing in the workplace where employees spend most of their time, hence the need to address challenges associated to mental health in a workplace environment.
And officiating at the event, Central Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Mr. Godfrey Chitambala said government is committed to implementing policies and programmes that support mental health in the work place.
Mr. Chitambala said government is also committed to providing resources and training for employers and employees.
He said this year’s theme emphasizes on the need to prioritize mental health in a work place, because it is the environment where workers spend most of their time. Adding that the work place has been identified as a major source of stress, anxiety, depression and other vices such as substance use.
The deputy Permanent Secretary further said government through His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema has provided for every Friday afternoon to be used for sports activities in order to prevent non- communicable diseases which include mental health.
The event was also graced by the Deputy Mayor His Worship Mr. Wesley Phiri, the Provincial Health Director Central Province Dr. Elijah Mutoloki and other senior government officials.
