Zambia Railways Limited Public Relations Manager Ms. Sombe Longwani Ng’onga this morning featured on Power Fm (87.9fm Kabwe) Radio Programme dubbed ‘Statutes and Safety ‘ to discuss rail safety.

During the interview, Ms. Ng’onga talked about the role of Zambia Railways Limited, the safety of passengers and employees, challenges faced by the company in maintaining and improving safety on the rail system.

She also explained on the effects of vandalism and theft on the company and how ZRL is losing colossal sums of money in repairs and replacements costs as a result of vandalism of rail infrastructure.

Ms. Ng’onga further said ZRL has embarked on community sensitization programmes aimed at educating members of the public on the negative effects of theft and vandalism of rail infrastructure, adding that this has led to community apprehension of vandals, recovery of stolen items as well as a reduction of such activities in some areas which were previously hit by criminal activities.
