Zambia Railways Limited Ag. Managing Director Fred Mwila says there is need for enhanced partnerships in external services been offered at the company’s Engineering Division at Main Workshops in Kabwe, Central Province.
Speaking during an interactive tour of Workshops, Eng. Mwila said the engineering services been offered to external clients require intensified collaborations with various stakeholders in a bid to maximize the potential of the facility.
Eng. Mwila noted that with the capacity that the workshops has, more efforts will be channeled towards marketing the facility to the public.
Eng. Mwila who was in the company of Ag. Director Technical Services Eng. Kennedy Zitha and Manager Motive Power, Eng. Jeremiah Ngulube has commended the workers for the hard work and ingenuity despite the limited resources.
He has urged the workers to expeditiously complete the pending work assignments within the available resources.
Eng. Mwila was quick to reiterate the need for employees to operate in a clean and habitable work environment.
He echoed management’s commitment in addressing the challenges been faced by workers at Workshops.
The Main Workshops specialize in the overhaul and repair of locomotives and wagons as well as offering various engineering services to external clients in an effort to generate revenue.
Some of the items manufactured at workshops are Chaka hoes, hammers, water tanks, oil clarifiers, steel chairs and chair frames, gates, grill doors, french doors, window frames & door frames, ox driven plough spare parts. Other services offered are Machining of shafts, machining of flanges, machining hammer mill shafts, motor vehicle engine re-boring, motor vehicle cylinder head skimming as well as general re-boring.
