ZRL STRESSES THE IMPORTANCE OF AN EFFICIENT RAILWAY SYSTEM
Zambia Railways Limited Managing Director Eng. Cuthbert Malindi yesterday at the 2025 Invest-Zambia International Conference joined other panelists to discuss an important topic: “Lobito Corridor: Strengthening Zambia’s Investment Infrastructure for Long-term Economic Growth”.
During the Panel Discussion, Eng. Malindi said the significance of a functioning railway infrastructure to Zambia’s economic development, industrialization and regional trade cannot be over-emphasized.
“Therefore, improving the railway infrastructure is essential to increasing capacity, safety, and competitiveness of ZRL. ZRL is in current discussions with cooperating partners such as the European Union to fund the immediate track repair works requirement in line with its Strategic Business Plan.” he said.
Eng. Malindi said the Lobito Corridor Project presents a transformational opportunity for ZRL.
He further disclosed that the company is partnering with the private sector in addressing some of its challenges linked to the track and rolling stock.
Other panelists were Minister of Transport and Logistics Hon. Museba Frank Tayali who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Eng. Fredrick Mwalusaka, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Infrastructure – Dr. Albert Malama, Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Congo to Zambia – H.E.M. Bapaga Tepupileka Serge Didier, Head of Cooperation, EU Delegation to Zambia and COMESA – Mr. Claudio Bacigalupi and Chief Executive Officer of Commodore Industries – Mr. Tokologo Phetla.
The Conference is being held under the theme: “Driving Generational Transformative Investments through Joint Ventures and Partnerships”
