Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zambia Telecommunications Company Limited (ZAMTEL) that will address the communication needs and culminate into integrated communication solutions.

Speaking at the Signing Ceremony in Lusaka, ZRL Chief Executive Officer Christopher Musonda said through the MoU, ZRL will have an integrated communication solution along the line of rail from Chililabombwe to Livingstone through Data and Voice.

Mr Musonda is confident that the collaboration will go a long way in achieving synergies within the group that will ensure better utilisation of the group’s portfolios of assets.

“The relationship between the two companies will also facilitate the integration and hosting of ‘094’ number range on ZAMTEL Mobile Switching Centre nationwide coverage on Data and Voice” said Mr Musonda

Mr Musonda said the partnership is timely as the railway company has embarked on the recapitalisation and modernisation of the railway infrastructure.

At the same event, ZAMTEL Chief Executive Officer Sydney Mupeta said the partnership between the two companies will address the communication needs as well as provide digital solutions to Zambia Railways Limited.

Meanwhile, Industrial Development Corporation Group CEO Mateyo Kaluba has commended the two companies for creating synergies aimed at improving their business operations.

Mr Kaluba urged companies within the group to emulate ZAMTEL and Zambia Railways Limited in embracing digital revolution as well as business partnerships amongst group companies as opposed to outsourcing.
