ZRL COMMEMORATES SARA RAILWAY SAFETY WEEK
During the 2023 Southern African Railways Association (SARA) Safety week commemoration from 8th October -14th October,2023 , Zambia Railways Limited(ZRL) held safety activities across the communities along the line of rail to mark this important event.
This year’s Safety Week was held under the theme “Safety begins with your attitude, always be careful”
ZRL launched this event with various activities aimed at educating the community targeting different schools, markets, and bus stations where safety talks were held focusing on trespassing on rail tracks, indiscriminate disposal of waste on rail tracks, theft and vandalism of rail infrastructure.
ZRL Safety Manager Ms. Glenda Ngulube stated that most of the railway accidents are caused by human error , a situation that needs to be corrected through such educational engagements on railway safety.
“ Engagements with school going children has a long term impact especially in finding lasting solutions to railway accidents. These children will grow up with the knowledge on railway safety as well as have a sense of patriotism in protecting the railway infrastructure ” said Ms. Ngulube .
